How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

Question-
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?

I would say the combination of our main product and ancillary texts were very effective- all of which featured our main character and so they were immediately relatable to each other. This also means that they were recognizable to the audience which would be our fan base. This is good because the more familiar the audience is with the media product the more successful we would be at reaching our brand identity. I think the combination of the main product and ancillary texts worked well together simply because they were very much alike.

The poster and magazine cover work well together because the images used compliment each other. They were taken on the same day and the main character is dressed in the same wear. The images used both included red "blood" and the connotations of this are things associated with is fear, horror and anger. Immediately our genre is easily identifiable to the audience.

I designed the poster in a way that it would be scary to look at and also simple so that it seemed realistic. I had a look at other horror movie posters such as the Saw sequels and Dawn of the dead. Looking at the conventions of these posters I tried to integrate these qualities into my own design to create a poster that was both realistic and good to look at.

The magazine cover I designed was both done in the due course of time, the magazine cover has the name "Alex Jibbs" instead of the actor's real name "Adeola Badejo" which was written on the main product (production piece). The file was corrupted before we had time to change it to match the names before the deadline but the message still gets across.

Music for the trailer

We decided to produce the music for our trailer ourselves because we thought it would be more original and it would be suited to the trailer more. Here are some screen shots of FL studio, the program we used to produce the fast paced track.

Magazine Cover

I designed the magazine cover using another one of the images I had taken on the location photoshoot. I think this image worked particularly well because of the backdrop - the connotations of nature along with the scary character in a "screaming" pose. I done research on other film magazines to come to this result, the magazine I had been looking at the most was various issues of Sight and Sound Magazine

I liked these magazine in particular because they use a low text to image ratio.

Final Poster

With feedback from teachers and other students in my group I managed to create the final Poster in which we would be submitting.
I changed the darkness of the photograph using Photoshop. It gave it a more mysterious and dangerous feel.

Poster Idea

This was my first initial idea for the poster. I used one of the photos I had taken on location during the photoshoot with the main character. I used photoshop in order to play with the sharpness of the photograph to give it more of an edge. I think this particular photo worked well because it appeared scary, edgy and eye catching. I realised the poster needed more work though, as it may not correlate with the "dark" theme of which the trailer would be filmed with low key lighting.

Photoshoot

We did a photoshoot on the location of the filming. These photos were going to be used for the marketing and promotion for our film; in other words the ancillary tasks (the film poster and the magazine cover) in which I would be designing for the group. We got some great quality photographs in which tied in with the whole "nature" "beastly" theme. Due to the rain and bad lighting we couldn't accomplish all that we wanted but personally I think our goal was reached of creating good photography.
